BattlezoneCabaret features a 13" monochrome monitor
A sub-mini arcade cabinet which plays vector gameson a 9" Vectrex screen.
Inspired by a thread calledVectrexII on
rec.games.vectrex
the objective ofthis project is to construct a tabletop device which can play Atari MonochromeVector games such as Lunar Lander, Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, Battlezone, andRed Baron.
The reason for doing this is that I'd love to play these gamesagain on a proper vector screen but I do not have the floor space for ANOTHERarcade cabinet. Not even a Battlezone Cabaret as pictured above.
These are just for fun as I do not yet have thedimensions of the game PCBs and the game board power supply.
The Vector-X will feature a rotatable 9"Vector screen and a modular control design which will allow custom controlsystems such as Battlezone's twin joysticks or Lunar Lander's analogue Thrustlever to be easily slotted into the machine.
UPDATE
15 march '99
- I've acquired an untested AsteroidsDeluxe PCB. All I really need now is an old vectrex.
Thanks to ColinKraft, Ray Ghanbari, CRAZY FRAZEE, Al Kossow, Wayne, and everyone else who'sgot in touch about this project.
I've now learned that I may notrequire the Atari P.S.U. (thank god) as all the games really only use +-5v and+-15v. I'm told that I may even get away with using the 12volts on a pc P.S.U.That'd make things a lot easier.
I'm also told however that these gamesuse a "strange differential audio signal" and I may have to add anatari audio regulator to the design.
It's also been pointed out to methat I may have grossly under-estimated the size of the game PCBs. This box isgoing to be BIGGER than I first thought.
ToDo List (everything really)
Things I have to find. If you can helpme with any of this then let me know:
A Vectrex with a good screen. I've gotone but I do not wish to destroy it so I'm on the lookout for a vectrex in ANYcondition as long as the screen functions, it's 240volts, and it's cheep:-)
P.C.B. Any Atari B&W vector game pcb but Battlezone is myfirst choice.
Power Supply for the PCB. Thisis the biggest problem. The Atari powersupply as I understand it is a ratherlarge thing and is not very easy to ship. Can anyone in the UK help me find one?Does anyone know if there's an alternative to using the Atari supply?
Audio Reguylator from a B&W Atari Vector Game
Ifyou've got any comments or ideas about this project then give me an email.
Ifyou know a way of powering an Atari PCB without the Atari powersupply thenplease email me.
If you can tell me the exact dimensions of an Ataripowersupply or of the Atari vector game PCBs (including height) then please getin touch.
